Polarity
Arrows on the tape are the signed contribution to VORTEX, not the day-over-day change of the raw print. Three sleeves are contrarian (Fund, F&G, RSI). The other six are directional.
| Sleeve | Polarity | ↑ / ⇡ means | ↓ / ⇣ means |
|---|---|---|---|
| ETF, OI, POC, VA, VWAP, CB prem | Directional | raw move / position supports bid | raw move / position supports ask |
| Fund | Contrarian | negative funding (shorts pay) | positive funding (longs pay) |
| F&G | Contrarian | index below 50 (fear) | index above 50 (greed) |
| RSI | Contrarian | RSI below 50 | RSI above 50 |
Fund scoring: clamp(−rate / 0.05)
F&G scoring: clamp((50 − idx) / 50)
RSI scoring: clamp((50 − RSI) / 40)
So F&G 70 → 78 is a higher raw print and a more bearish sleeve. Both days show ↓. The number rose; the sign did not flip. Same rule for RSI 62 → 66: both above 50, both ↓. Same rule for Fund: positive funding (longs pay) prints ↓ even if the rate ticked up.

Worked tape
Example · BTC composite
↕ −2.1 · Neutral
ETF +$8M ↑ OI ⇈ F&G 55 ⇣ RSI 50 ↕
POC ⤒ VA ↥ VWAP ↧ Fund ↓ CB prem ⇣
ETF mild bid, OI confirmed build, F&G just into greed (contrarian down), RSI flat at 50, POC held, value lifted, VWAP rejected, funding and Coinbase premium offered. Composite ↕ −2.1 is neutral with mixed internals — not ⇣ until more sleeves turn down.
Second example · why F&G can rise and still print down
VORTEX ↑ +20.5 · Mild bullish
ETF +$999M ↑ OI ↑↑ F&G 78 ↓ RSI 66 ↓
POC ↑ VA ↑ VWAP ↓ Fund ↓ CB prem ↓
F&G printed 78 after 70. Raw index up. Sleeve still ↓ because both readings sit above 50 and the hotter print is more contrarian-bearish. RSI 66 is the same rule. Fund ↓ means positive funding (longs pay), also contrarian.
The mark on the snapshot card follows the magnitude of VORTEX. It does not follow the BTC price. Sign does not change the form. Sign only shifts the color of the score number.
| |VORTEX| | Band | Forms |
|---|---|---|
| < 15 | Neutral | Möbius, gyroscope, nephroid |
| 15–40 | Mild | helix, helicoid, stacked rings |
| 40–70 | Strong | catenoid, funnel |
| > 70 | Extreme | pseudosphere |
Inside a band with more than one form, the form rotates by day and stays fixed for that session. Extreme uses the pseudosphere only. The same computed snapshot always reprints the same form.
Score color. Neutral is metallic gold. As the score rises toward +100 the gold shifts toward green. As it falls toward −100 the gold shifts toward red. The band label, wordmark, and rules do not change color.
